The History Of IRPA

IRPA13 are proud to announce the launch of “The History of IRPA – up to the millennium”.

A special edition of “The History of IRPA – up to the millennium” has been prepared to commemorate IRPA13. This paperback edition has all the text and photographs from the full version but without some of the detailed appendices. It is available for pre-order and collection at the Congress at the special price of £20.00.

Summary

Since its foundation, the International Radiation Protection Association (IRPA) has grown to become the international voice of the profession of radiological protection. This book traces the development of IRPA from its origins in the US Health Physics Society up to its formation in 1965. The creation of the IRPA Constitution, the membership requirements and the development of the procedures for governance are described. The article then traces the story of IRPA through the first ten Congresses from Rome in 1966 to Hiroshima in 2000. The happenings during and between Congresses are described including the politically driven change of venue for the fourth Congress, the interaction with other International Organisations and the development of non-ionising radiation protection.

These items are subject to availability and minimum order requirements being reached.

To register for the Congress and order your paperback edition at the same time please click here. Or, if you have already registered please email your order to registration@irpa13glasgow.com.

Delegates are reminded that the Congress can offer bursary support to selected delegates.  Applications must be made via the website, click here to submit your application.  In addition to the normal bursary funding we have been fortunate to secure special funding for delegates with a specific interest in the transport of radioactive material.  Applications should be made as explained above.

Re-opening Abstract submission system

We are very pleased to announce that over 1150 abstracts have already been accepted for the IRPA13 Congress in May 2012.  We have however become aware that there are still colleagues who would like to submit further abstracts, and hence share their experience and knowledge with the international community.  To meet this demand we are re-opening the abstract submission system immediately, and it will remain open until 29 February 2012.  Since the selection of oral presentations has already been completed, any new abstract submissions can only be considered for poster presentation.  We hope to be able to confirm acceptance within two weeks of abstract submission.  To submit a poster abstract please click here
